Lisible privacy policy
Last updated October 9, 2026.
Lisible is a free Mac app made by Franck Debane. This page covers the app and its download page, debane.org/lisible. For any question about your data, write to lisible@debane.org.
The app
Your files stay on your Mac. Lisible opens a file where it is and saves it in the same place. It has no account, no analytics and no tracking, and it never sends the content of your notes anywhere.
Update checks. On its second launch, Lisible asks whether it may check for updates. If you agree, it downloads the update feed from debane.org once a day. Like any web request, this one carries your IP address and a user agent with the versions of Lisible and of Sparkle, the updater it uses. Lisible doesn’t send any other information about your Mac. You can turn the check off in Settings, under Updates.
Content from the web. Images in your notes that are hosted on the web load from their own servers. HTML exports load their math and code styles from jsDelivr, a public CDN.
Links you choose to open. Help, then Send Feedback…, and Lisible, then Support Lisible…, open pages of debane.org in your browser. The feedback page receives your Lisible and macOS versions in its address.
The download page
Counts. debane.org counts page views, downloads, update checks and clicks to the donation page per day, by app version and country. It doesn’t keep IP addresses.
Optional unique download counting. If you enable the checkbox below, a random identifier is stored in a first-party cookie for 180 days, without extending its expiry on return visits. Cloudflare D1 stores that identifier, your consent time and expiry, and the UTC days on which that browser downloads Lisible, distinguishing Mac from other devices. No IP address or full user agent is stored in these records. This estimates browsers, not people or installations, and covers only browsers that opt in. The identifier is not used for advertising or combined with Google Analytics. Uncheck to delete the cookie and its records. Expired identifiers are excluded from reports immediately and their records are deleted by a daily cleanup, or sooner on a subsequent opted-in download.
Optional, for 180 days. Downloading works either way. Uncheck to remove the cookie and its download records. Privacy
Analytics. The Lisible pages don’t use Google Analytics or any advertising tracker. Cloudflare Web Analytics counts visits, without cookies or stored IP addresses.
Feedback form. It collects your message, the topic you pick, your Lisible and macOS versions when you come from the app, and your email address if you give one. They reach me by email and only serve to answer you and improve Lisible. They are never sold or used for marketing. Cloudflare Turnstile checks that a person, not a robot, sent the form.
Donations. The donation page is hosted by Stripe, which handles the payment under its own privacy policy. I receive the amount, the name and email you give Stripe, and your message if you write one. I never see your card details.
How long, and your rights
Feedback messages are kept as long as the conversation needs them. Donation records are kept as long as accounting rules require. The aggregate daily counts contain no browser identifiers. Optional download identifiers and their linked records have a maximum reporting lifetime of 180 days.
You can ask to access, correct or delete your data, or object to its use, by writing to lisible@debane.org. If you live in the European Union, you can also complain to your data protection authority; in France, the CNIL.
Service providers: Cloudflare (hosting, counts, form emails, Turnstile, Web Analytics), Stripe (donations), jsDelivr (styles of HTML exports).
