David Bland warns that as companies tear down functional silos, they build a new one: an innovation silo. The three horizons model tends to split mindsets, with horizon 1 living on the return of cash cows, horizon 2 scaling new businesses and horizon 3 exploring. His remedies: recognise business model and process innovation in horizons 1 and 2, rotate people through horizon 3, let them follow the products they believe in, and grow talent from within, as Adobe does with Kickbox.
